Yes Bay Lodge Fishing Report - September 13th, 2009

Sunday September 13th, 2009 – Fishing Report

The silvers are here and there are some real nice ones…the bite was a little slow at times today but limits were available to those who stayed with it. At times the bite was fast and furious with several doubles on my boat and the fish were all a little bigger today it seemed. No great big ones, but all over 10 pounds and several up to 13. A real nice 21 pound King also hit the dock…

A couple crew went on a short trip to the mouth for some halibut and in less than an hour were rewarded with a nice 107 pounder – way to go Slammer and Slice!!

Enjoy the pictures of a nice day of fishing at Yes bay Lodge in SE Alaska,

The weather today was perfect, some fog in the morning but blue skies and sunshine most of the day with very little wind, in fact at times it was flat calm.

Yes Bay Lodge Fishing Report - September 12th, 2009

Saturday September 12th, 2009 – Fishing Report

Silver bite was on this morning as well as a halibut bite, so the morning was good. The salmon bite really slowed in the afternoon, but a couple small halibut hit the dock.

All in all a great day of fishing with salmon limits for most boats and some other assorted fish to go along.

Weather was rainy all day but very little wind so it was a nice day at Yes Bay!

BTW – Sorry for the spam earlier today and yesterday – hopefully I resolved that issue and it will end at least for a little while.

Yes bay Lodge Fishing Report - September 10th, 2009

Thursday September 10th, 2009 – Fishing Report

It was a miserable day in paradise and only the hardiest fisherman survived today, we had tons of wind and rain and cold air as a front went through today. There were even waterspouts sighted near the Lodge. It WAS miserable.

But have no fear our guides stuck it out long enough to gather some fish for their guests. Some nice rockfish, silver salmons all hit the dock today.

Enjoy the pictures of a great day of fishing at Yes Bay Lodge in SE Alaska, OK maybe not GREAT, but there were fish!!

Axeman gets hooked!!

Fishing can be dangerous at times and this week seems to have taken its toll on the guides around here with Batman being the first one to manage to hook himself, in addition to the fish, and today it was Axeman’s turn. I hope this is the end of it, as I did it several years ago and it is not something I want to repeat and I am sure both of these guys will agree.

Poor Sharon our office manager got chewed out the other day for not documenting Batman’s ordeal of hook removal, so today with her trusty camera she managed to coerce someone to stand by Axeman and shoot a couple pictures.

Not for the faint of heart, the removal of a big hook from any part of your body is a painful experience and today’s was no different. Kevin Hack the owner of Yes Bay has seen his share of injuries, including many hooks in various body parts and is somewhat of an expert at removing them.

Trusty new razor blade, good pair of dikes to cut the barb or eye end of the hook off and a nice fresh potato from the kitchen is all you generally need.

Potato you ask?

Yep, works wonders, having to push the hook through to get it out produces some stress on the skin and it can tear, so you apply pressure with the potato which holds the skin down but allows the business end of the hook to impale itself into the potato, once the other end of the hook exits from the hand, the hook is safely impaled in the potato and can be lifted up.

So, Axeman got to experience Kevin’s’ surgical skills first hand and we have the pictures to prove it.

Just another day at Yes bay!!

BTW – Axeman is fine, went back out fishing this afternoon after his surgery and caught a few more fish, albeit, probably a little more careful. Tonight a good soaking and bath of hydrogen peroxide and some Neosporin and a few more days of doctoring and he will be completely healed!

It was a big 6/0 UPRO heavy duty hook, hence the large pair of dikes to cut the hook.

Yes Bay Lodge Fishing Report - September 8th, 2009

Tuesday September 8th, 2009 – Fishing Report

The good news is the weather was not nearly as bad as predicted. It seems the wind advisory never reached Yes bay area, although it was breezy and gusty at times, it never reached the 40 mph that was forecast. Cold, wet and rainy and breezy, but it didn’t seem to affect the fishing with a bunch of big silvers hitting the dock today along with a few nice halibut and an assortment of rock fish, including a couple really nice yellow eye snappers.

A good day of fishing even when the weather does not cooperate!

Yes Bay Lodge Fishing Report - September 7th, 2009

Monday September 7th, 2009 – Fishing Report

Happy Labor Day!

The fishing for silvers turned on today with limits all around for most boats and they were much bigger fish with several over 15 pounds and at least one 17 pounder on the dock today! The bite was pretty fast several times today with the morning being especially good.

The weather is supposed to turn bad tomorrow with wind advisory in effect so it will be a beast tomorrow, but that’s fishing in Alaska!

Enjoy the pictures,
