End of 2010 Season and Adventure Trip Home!

Well the very successful 2010 season at Yes Bay ended and we quickly buttoned up the Lodge, moved all the boats to town and got things squared away for a brand new season next year, make plans now to join me for an Alaska fishing vacation!

As usual I plan a wonderful trip home and this year is no exception. I left the Lodge a few days earlier than planned because we were expecting bad weather and we got it, while I was in the hotel in Ketchikan, the winds blew well over 60 knots with gusts as high as 100 in some places. Oh and also driving rain, so going in to town a little early was a wise decision. I left Ketchikan on the 25th and arrived at a buddies in Kalispell Montana on the 26th - On the 27th we headed down to the Bison Range National Park and then went to see some old mining ghost towns. Then we headed for a full tour of most of Glacier National Park. The weather is perfect with clear blue skies and warm temperatures, perfect for picture taking!!

Here are a few from the trip...

First a prelude to the bad weather in Ketchikan

An Antelope at the Bison Range

And another antelope.

A distant buffalo, they were not very cooperative...although I have a funny one I will post in the next day or so - stay tuned.

This one is a little better...

Self Portrait in a saloon in the old ghost town of Bannack.

A squirrel in Glacier National Park.

Some Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep in Glacier National Park.

A beautiful scene in Glacier National Park.

Some of the fall colors...

Stay tuned for more photos of my trip home...I took a ton and will be posting more everyday or so...

Hope everyone is well...

September 19th - SEASON ENDS WITH FISH!

Our last guests leave tomorrow and only 2 boats fished today with guests, the weather was clear and sunny but we had a bit of wind today, so it was a little rough out there, but the fishing remained very good.

Limits of nice 10 plus pound Silver Salmon before lunch, only Slammers boat went out in the afternoon and they managed a nice halibut and a couple nice King Salmon. My boat decided they had enough fish for their 4 days of fishing - nearly 300 pounds of finished fillets! A total of 48 salmon, 3 halibuts and a couple yelloweye snapper thrown in for good measure!

Here are today's catch pictures - Stay tuned for the Silver Salmon Derby Winners!!

All in all a tremendous season at Yes Bay Lodge in SE Alaska, the entire crew and staff at Yes Bay would like to Thank each and every one of our customers for making this one of the best seasons ever!

Make plans to join us next year - prime dates are already booking up...so make you reservations soon!!

Thanks

September 18th - It just doesn't get any better than this!

The high pressure system we have been sitting under continues to hold, with super clear skies, light winds and warm temperatures!! So unlike September in Alaska, the only thing that is like Alaska is the fishing...the silver run is in full swing and has been for several weeks, the fish keep getting bigger and bigger and the bite is strong and steady with all boats getting their limit well before lunch...then off hunting halibut, snapper and some kings...this is fishing the Yes Bay way. Best time of the year to visit Yes Bay Lodge!!

Why haven't more people discovered this time of year at Yes Bay??

On with today's catch pictures!!

September 17th - Great Fishing!!

What is going on - beautiful weather, fantastic fishing and we have the last 6 guests in the Lodge!! Just because the rest of Alaska is finished for the season, doesn't mean it is over at Yes Bay Lodge!! Right now we have some of the best fishing of the season...

Today - 11 Silvers and 1 king salmon in the boat by 9:15 AM - then this afternoon we caught a nice halibut and finished with another nice King on the way home!! Who could ask for more!! Silvers all 10 plus pounds, with several over 13!!

Here are the pictures to proof how good our day was!!

Crew went fishing as well...

Here is Dewey with a couple nice kings from this morning

And Smiley took the girls fishing this afternoon and managed a few nice silvers, just to prove there must be a MILLION of them out there!!

On with the guests pictures...

September 16th - Another perfect day!!

The weather continues to be just perfect with sunny blue skies, warm temperatures and calm winds...the salmon bite slowed a little early this morning but in reality it was steady...we had 10 nice silvers in the boat by 10:00 am, then went off in search of halibut saving our limit of 12 salmon for some later afternoon kings and we weren't disappointed...nailed a nice 31 pound halibut then went for Kings and landed two real nice feeder kings for a full day of great fishing...

The other boats were just as lucky with some real nice catches hitting the dock today!!

Season is winding down, but the fishing remains HOT!!

Here are the pictures from today's catch!!

A great day at Yes Bay Lodge in SE Alaska!!

September 15th - Another Perfect Day!

The weather cooperated for another day and so did the fish!! It was a very pleasant, sunny calm day on the water and the silver salmon bite continues to remain very strong, also some nice bottom fish hit the dock today as well.

Changeover at the lodge today with guests leaving and guests arriving, only three boats fished today and one only for a 1/2 day.

Still plenty of fish to clean, here are today's pictures!!

How's this for a mornings catch!!

A full days catch including a nice King and a couple halibut!

About an hours worth of fishing!!

September 14th - The perfect weather and fishing continues!

This by far is the best September weather for a long time, fair skies a little fog in the mornings, but no wind, calm seas and bright sunshine all day, only complaint is the sunburn factor - the fishing remains very good with a very strong silver bite in the mornings. Limits by all who wanted them well before lunch, then the hunt for feeder Kings and bottom fish the remainder of the day.

But first we managed to catch Slammer doing what he does best, while waiting for the boats to come in...

Today's Catch pictures!

Today was the last day with a couple of my best guests of the year, some real fun was had and some great fishing!

Including a nice 17 pound King this afternoon!

How's this for a day's haul!!

The end of another perfect day at Yes Bay Lodge in SE Alaska!!

September 13th - Perfect Day!!

The weather continues to astound everyone, with bright blue clear skies, warm temperature, calm seas and virtually no wind. People are actually complaining about getting sunburned, unheard of for September.

The morning salmon bite was fantastic, most boats had their limit of nice big silvers well before lunch and then spent the afternoon looking for Kings or halibut and other bottom fish.

Here are today's catch pictures!
