July 19th - Fishing Report

Pretty much all the boats were fishing today and it was a hard day of fishing. As I mentioned yesterday and weather change was coming, it arrived this morning with some wind, lots of rain and colder temperatures. Several people were pretty cold by lunch time. The afternoon got a little better, rain lightened up, wind died down some and it got a little warmer.

The fish are still around but you have to work for them. The bottom fishing for halibut was real slow today with none brought to the dock. But some nice rock fish a beautiful Ling Cod and a large Yellow Eye rounded out the bottom catch. Some nice 25 plus pound kings also hit the dock a few pinks and a couple silvers rounded out the salmon catch.

Here are today's pictures:

July 18th - Fishing Report

A little bit cooler this morning but no rain, light winds and it warmed up this afternoon. Still some Kings around, especially in the morning. Some great fish hit the dock today. Although a change in the weather is predicted, we'll see if that happens!!

A party of 8 arrived today and more tomorrow - back to most boats fishing again tomorrow...vacation is over!

Here are today's pictures!

July 17th - Fishing Report

Weather held for another day - sunshine left us, it was overcast all day, but no rain, no wind and there were some fish chewing.

Here are today's pictures!

And with a couple crew members having a day off - Slammer took the Viking Crew out to do a little fishing and Erik hooked into a big halibut! 140 pounder...it wore him out!

The tradition at Yes Bay Lodge is any crew member or guide who hits the dock with a halibut over 100 pounds or a King over 50 pounds has to go for a swim! Young Erik, didn't think that was such a good idea, but it was jump in or get thrown in...so he chose to jump! Long live the tradition!

Did I mention the water is still cold!!

July 16th - Fishing Report

Only one boat fishing today we are between groups, so several people headed to town for some shopping, haircuts etc....it was a beautiful day today with bright sunshine and clear skies but some wind this afternoon, which caused a little lumpy ride home, but didn't seem to affect the fishing although the bite was in the afternoon, rumor has it the morning was slow...

Here is the picture of the day:

Now for something interesting...last night we had the Northern Lights around here and several of us stayed up to watch! I took a couple pictures...

July 15th - Fishing Report

Well the weather just does not get any better. Calm winds, slight overcast, warm and mostly sunny! Add to that some decent fishing and you have a day to remember!

Big John took some of the house staff (All girls - figure that one out) out this afternoon and they had a ball...and some first Kings were landed by the girls!!

Here are the pictures to prove it!

Good Job Heidi, Claire and Janna!!

The guests had a great day as well!

July 14th - Fishing Report

Well the weather cooperated another day today, it started out raining like cats and dogs this morning with rain fog as well, but no real wind. Then just about fishing time, the rain let up and it got progressively better all day!

The fishing for kings remained good as well plus an assortment of other fish a halibut or two and some very nice rock fish!

Here are today's pictures!

July 13th - Fishing Report

The weather stayed nice today with warm sunshine in the morning and a little bit of rainy drizzle this afternoon, but no wind. The good weather and bright skies slowed the King bite down a little today, but several nice ones managed to hit the dock today, those who put the time in were rewarded.

Chef Nicky took her day off and went out with Dewey and Slammer and they targeted Kings and managed a couple nice ones!

Here are the pics!

July 12th - Fishing Report

Days like this don't come along often up here! Bright blue skies, lots of sunshine and warm weather. Calm winds a wonderful day in SE Alaska!

Only a few boats out today - more guests arriving tomorrow, but we did have a few people from the Wilderness Discovery stop by for a morning of fishing and one young man landed a King that was almost as big as he was! He was pretty happy!

Pictures to prove his catch! And a smile to match!
