Update July 25th, 2013 - Looking for bears!

Took a drive last evening looking for bears and wouldn't you know it, none feeding in the river and just about the time it got too dark to shoot good pictures on the way back on the beach was a mother and young cub.

First I shot the eagle nest!

Then on the way back to the campground - I see Momma and Cub! Interesting point, Momma had a tracking collar on!

Hopefully when the salmon run heats up I will find some feeding in the river!

Stay Tuned!

Update - July 23rd, 2013 - Some Birds and the Moon!

Been pretty much locked to the campground the past few days, but managed to drag the camera out a few times. Campground is full and lot's of good people. Yesterday some people I have been following from an RV Forum I participate in arrived at the campground, always fun to meet online "friends". We have been conversing since I left Arizona for Alaska back in April. They have been traveling all around and having a grand time. I have been reading of their adventures for the past month or so and was anxious to finally meet them when they hit Haines! So welcome to my world Salty Adventurer and Oldedit!!

Last night we had the most gorgeous moonrise on a wonderful full moon!

On with the pictures!

Tonight I had a very friendly Fox Sparrow right here in the campground and managed a few pics...then a couple eagles came out this evening.

Still having fun in Haines, the sockeye have finally started to run up the river, so tomorrow I think I will go hunt for some bears feeding on salmon!

Enjoy and stay tuned for more pictures and adventures!

Blog Update July 19th - Around the Campground!

Campground has been full and I have been pretty busy, so not much time to get out and take some pictures, however this place is so beautiful I decided to just shoot a few of some of the evening fun around the campground on a clear and warm night!

On with the pictures!

Hope you enjoyed them and stay tuned for the rest of my summer here!

Something Different a Video July 16th - Chilkoot State Park, Haines Alaska

Tried something different yesterday...bought some mount kits and a wireless remote for my new GoPro camera so I mounted it on my windsheild wiper mount and filmed while I was driving as a test.

So here is my drive through the State Park near Haines, Alaska.

Enjoy....

July 16th - Haines Update

Things still going very well here in Haines with beautiful weather and a full campground. I managed to go and look for Eagles and bears yesterday, but not much to be found....no real big amount of fish in the river yet...

But still managed a couple decent pictures.

One eagle and when he flew off, he went the other way...go figure!

More updates as time allows....

Enjoy,

Update - June 10, 2013

Things are still going well at the campground in Haines, Alaska. Planning another Crab Feast tomorrow night, a little slower now since the 4th of July...

Today I took another drive out to the State Park hoping that there would be an abundance of sockeye running up the river and the bears would be down feeding, but no real numbers on the fish yet, they are due any day now...

However, I managed a couple eagle pictures, so enjoy!

Those were the only ones worthy of showing today....

Stay tuned for the arrival of the sockeye and some great bear pictures!

July 4th - Haines Alaska Fireworks!

Enjoyed a great evening right in front of my camper on the waterfront at the Campground and had front row seats for a wonderful fireworks disply....set up my tripod and remote and snapped away.

Managed to get a couple perfectly timed ones!!

For those photo people interested I pre-focused before it got dark and then set the camera to manual focus and had the camera on manual F-22 and 2 second exposure. I was using my 14-54 zoom lens at 14 which would be equal to a 28mm wide angle lens!

Small Town Independence Day - Haines Alaska July 4th, 2013

I love small town celebrations, it is the only way to celebrate a Holiday Like July 4th! The day started out with a great breakfast at the VFW Hall - with everything you can imagine, perfect pancakes, hash browns, scrambled eggs, ham and bacon and sausage and some nice biscuits and gravy!!

Not long after they raised the flag at the fort and fired the cannon to signify the start of the festivities! The parade which must have included nearly everyone in town was a great one with lots of candy thrown for the kids!

Then it was off to the park for all kinds of field games for the young and old alike. Three legged races, nail driving contest, pie eating contest and plenty of activities for all ages. Music tonight at the parade ground followed by fireworks tonight over the harbor. Pics of that tomorrow!

Anyway - I had a grand day and managed a few pics.

This guy is a hoot - he is in the campground and has been for several weeks....very nice people!

The Parade!

The Haines Marching Band!

Fun for all ages!

Plenty of "Field Games" in the park after the parade!

Stay tuned for some GREAT Fireworks shots, we had a great show last night!!
