Small Town Independence Day - Haines Alaska July 4th, 2013

I love small town celebrations, it is the only way to celebrate a Holiday Like July 4th! The day started out with a great breakfast at the VFW Hall - with everything you can imagine, perfect pancakes, hash browns, scrambled eggs, ham and bacon and sausage and some nice biscuits and gravy!!

Not long after they raised the flag at the fort and fired the cannon to signify the start of the festivities! The parade which must have included nearly everyone in town was a great one with lots of candy thrown for the kids!

Then it was off to the park for all kinds of field games for the young and old alike. Three legged races, nail driving contest, pie eating contest and plenty of activities for all ages. Music tonight at the parade ground followed by fireworks tonight over the harbor. Pics of that tomorrow!

Anyway - I had a grand day and managed a few pics.

This guy is a hoot - he is in the campground and has been for several weeks....very nice people!
