Regardless - undaunted, I took a couple pictures of the beautiful scenery.
First a panorama taken from above Virginia City on "Boot Hill"
Now another panorama of "Alder Gulch" which is where the primary gold strike was and miles of the river bed were dredged up and processes for gold and gems with the most prolific gem discovered was the Red Garnet, which gave the name of the valley - Ruby Valley even though it was not Ruby's which were discovered, but Garnets.
Here are a couple more of the beautiful scenery in the area.
My favorite from the day is the Children's Fishing Pond which is sponsored by the city and Montana Fish and Game to promote fishing!
On a "business note", I have added a gadget to the blog which will allow you to receive an email whenever there is a new entry to this blog. Friends arrive from Salt Lake this afternoon, look forward to fishing and exploring the remainder of this week, before heading down to Salt Lake on Friday.
Stay Tuned!
Capt. Jim - "The Gypsy"
Traveling and photographing the Southwest and Alaska!
Cool photos, Jim, but it seems you may have confused Virginia City, MT with Virginia City, Nevada. The Ponderosa was located in Nevada on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. Draw a couple of east-west lines, one through the south end of Reno, NV and another through the north end of Carson City, NV and you'll have the approximate location of the Cartwright spread. YOu can find a map of the location here…
